504 Plans for Constipation

504 Plans.jpg

You’re doing everything you can at home to help your child with his constipation. You’re staying on top of timed toilet sits, you’re encouraging water throughout the day, you have a squatty potty in every bathroom and you’re giving your child the time he needs to sit and relax on the toilet (with his breathing exercises of course).

But wait, he spends the majority of his day at school, daycare or camp and they’re supportive, but not following the plan like you need. It’s likely they just don’t know how. For the kids we work with, we offer a Bowel and Bladder Care Plan. This is a list of all the things that need to happen at school to keep your child on track. After all, consistency is key.

504 plans can be a big help in these situations. We recently talked about 504 plans, IEPs and IHPs over on The Constipation Gurus for Kids Facebook page. Here’s the video in case you missed it.

For more info on the different types of school plans available check out this helpful chart.

We have also put together a Bowel and Bladder Care Plan that you can download and bring to the healthcare professional working with your child. We’re excited to share this resource with you for free because we want every child to get the help they need and continue with their care plan when away from home.

And while we know the end of the year is coming for many kids, now is actually the perfect time to start thinking about plans for summer and the next school year. Getting the school nurse involved is critical to getting this plan in place. Reach out and let the nurse know what’s going on and make a plan to touch base before the end of the summer. The Bowel and Bladder Care Plan is also great for the babysitter, camp or daycare setting over the summer.

We hope you find this info helpful. Does your child have a bathroom plan for school? Drop us a note to let us know.
